CIETEC (China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission) and the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre have signed a mutual co-operation agreement. The agreement will allow the two institutions to conduct arbitrations or examine witnesses at each other's premises. In addition, the host institution will provide administrative support, including recommending arbitrators, exchanging secretariat members, and allowing for the joint administration of arbitrations.
It is hoped that the agreement will benefit Chinese parties who choose to arbitrate their disputes through the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre by enabling arbitrations to be conducted at CIETAC premises, thereby saving costs.
