The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has sought to block the merger of two large energy corporations in the mid-Atlantic region, claiming that the deal would substantially lessen competition and increase the price of electricity for consumers. The DOJ has also filed a proposed settlement that would allow the merger to go forward, provided the companies divest certain electricity plants.
