Glossary

Docket

The official record of all of the proceedings pending in a court. A docket normally includes, for each proceeding, a chronological listing of each of the:
  • Papers filed by the parties.
  • Orders, judgments, and other papers issued by the court.
  • Appearances, verdicts, and other in-court events.
Although the US federal courts use the term docket, in some states the official record of proceedings, filings, and events is known as the minutes or clerk's minutes.
Parties may also use docket as:
  • A verb meaning to record something in the court's official record.
  • A noun meaning the cases assigned to a particular judge (that is, a case "on the judge's docket").
