The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ireland's Office of the Data Protection Commissioner to promote cooperation and communication between each agency's efforts to protect consumer data privacy.
On June 27, 2013, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a press release announcing that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Ireland's Office of the Data Protection Commissioner to promote more cooperation and communication between the agencies in their efforts to protect consumer privacy. The MOU:
  • Is designed to bolster the agencies' privacy enforcement partnership as the need for cross-border enforcement cooperation increases.
  • Provides a framework for voluntary cooperation.
The MOU does not change either country's existing laws.
