The Chancellor's Autumn Statement on 5 December 2013 includes a number of announcements relating to science and innovation.

The Chancellor has published his 2013 Autumn Statement, which includes a number of measures relating to science and innovation.

Facts

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, delivered his 2013 Autumn Statement on 5 December 2013. The Statement includes a number of measures to bolster the UK's science and technology bases. Among other things, the government will:
  • Develop a network of Quantum Technology Centres with an investment of £270 million over five years. The centres will focus on the application of quantum research and the development of related new industries.
  • Support research and innovation in emerging powers and build partnerships with the UK through an annual fund of £75 million.
  • Set up a global collaborative space programme with an £80 million fund.
  • Produce a science and innovation strategy for the Autumn Statement 2014, which will include a roadmap for the government's commitment to science.
