This Law Firm Publication by Ford & Harrison LLP discusses the Newark paid sick leave ordinance recently approved by Newark mayor Luis Quintana. Under the new ordinance, employees who work for private-sector employers in Newark for at least 80 hours per year are eligible to earn one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. Employees are eligible to earn this sick leave as soon as they are hired but may not make use of it until they have been employed for 90 days. The ordinance is expected to become effective mid-June 2014.
