Requests for Admission

Also known as requests to admit or a notice to admit in some jurisdictions. Written requests from one party to another party in a lawsuit which generally require the responding party to admit or deny the truth of certain matters within the scope of discovery or disclosure. A party typically uses a request for admission to elicit admissions from an adverse party regarding either:
  • Specified facts in a case.
  • The authenticity or genuineness of a paper or document.
However, rules in some jurisdictions may allow a party to use a request for admission for other purposes, such as to elicit an admission as to the correctness of a photograph.
