The Law Society has sent a letter before claim under the pre-action protocol for judicial review, regarding the government's plans to increase court fees.
Note: Since this update was prepared, the House of Lords has approved the Civil Proceedings and Family Proceedings Fees (Amendment) Order 2015, which implements substantial increases to court fees that will enter into force on Monday 9 March 2015 (see Legal update, Increases in court fees to enter into force on Monday 9 March 2015).
Also, the Law Society has subsequently decided against pursuing the judicial review claim, but continues to campaign against the fee increases, see Legal update, Law Society continues to campaign against court fee increases.
