On 14 January 2009, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a petition in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia requesting that AT&T Inc. (AT&T) be found in civil contempt for allegedly violating a 2008 consent decree and court order relating to AT&T's acquisition of Dobson Communications Corporation (Dobson). The DOJ simultaneously filed a settlement agreement and order under which AT&T agreed to pay more than US$2 million to resolve the allegations in the DOJ's petition.
