Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)

The federal agency created in 1974 to regulate the commodity futures and options markets in the US and which administers the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA). The CFTC's authority was most recently expanded by the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000. Authority over the regulation of securities futures rests with the SEC.
