This article explains the underlying principles of the Brazilian Arbitration Act 1996 (as revised in 2015). It also offers guidance on its interpretation and explains the interplay between arbitral tribunals and courts in Brazil. The 2015 amendments to the BAA introduced new topics and rules to arbitration proceedings in Brazil, which is highlighted throughout the article.
