The IPR Helpdesk has published a fact sheet on the management of intellectual property in the internationalisation process and when entering into foreign markets.
The IPR Helpdesk (a project funded by the European Commission to provide assistance on intellectual property (IP) matters to contractors taking part in EU-funded research and technological development projects) has published a fact sheet on dealing with IP matters in internationalisation processes and efficiently managing IP rights when entering into foreign markets.
The guidance highlights the various matters IP right-holders should take into account when extending their business activities at the international level, such as strategies to adopt to maximise value creation through IP exploitation and protecting registrable IP rights in multiple territories. This includes consideration of local specificities and the possible need to adapt IP and marketing strategies to specific markets, as well as seeking available international application/registration systems in order improve the cost-effectiveness and ease of management of IP portfolios.
