On 1 August 2016, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) Rules 2016 will enter into force. Practical Law Arbitration has published Practice note, SIAC arbitration (2016 Rules): a step-by-step guide and Checklist, Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) Arbitration Rules 2013 and 2016: comparison of key provisions.
On 1 August 2016, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) Rules 2016 will enter into force, applying to arbitrations commenced after that date, unless the parties have agreed otherwise. We have published the following new content to assist SIAC users:
The SIAC Rules 2016 introduce a number of notable changes from the 2013 Rules, including new provisions on early dismissal of claims and defences, as well as on multi-party and multi-contract arbitration. There are also enhancements to existing provisions, including emergency arbitrator and expedited procedures (see Legal update, New SIAC Rules 2016 and third party funding in Singapore).
In addition to the above new content, we are amending our existing resources where appropriate, in light of the 2016 Rules.
Still awaited are SIAC's new Investment Arbitration Rules, which are currently due to come into force on 1 September 2016 (for background information, see Legal update, SIAC launches public consultation on draft investment arbitration rules).
