How do the books appear on the site?
Books are presented as web pages like our other Practical Law resources. They will appear on our website as two new resource types: Books and Chapters.
How do I subscribe to books online?
Fill in the form opposite to register your interest in books online. A member of our team will get back to you to discuss your order.
What is included in the subscription price?
A subscription to online books entitles your entire organisation to access your selected books for 12 months. The price covers the main content of the book, but may not cover additional information such as appendices, index pages and CD-Rom content. The price includes access to any new editions of the books included in your subscription which are published online by Practical Law Company within your subscription period. If Bloomsbury Professional stops updating a loose-leaf publication which you are subscribed to, you will automatically receive the planned replacement book when it is published, if it is published within your subscription period.
What is the difference between a book, a loose-leaf volume and a journal?
Practical Law publishes books and loose-leaf volumes as HTML web pages, which are searchable. You can view one free chapter of each book or loose-leaf volume available through our site.
Looseleaf volumes are updated several times a year. If you subscribe to a loose-leaf, you will have automatic access to any updates published during your subscription period. Books are not updated, but if you subscribe to a book you will have automatic access to new editions of that book published during your subscription period.
Journals are published in PDF format and at regular intervals (usually four or six times a year). If you subscribe to a journal you will receive a PDF for each issue of that Journal published during your subscription period. You can view the abstract for each journal before you buy, but because the book is in PDF format, you cannot view a free chapter.
How long does a subscription last?
A subscription lasts from 12 months.
Who can access the books?
Any employee of an organisation with a books online subscription. The table of contents and one chapter of every book are free to access.
What happens when a new edition comes out?
We will make new editions of books in our catalogue available on our site as soon as possible after they are published. If a new edition or a loose-leaf update of a book you subscribe to comes out within your annual subscription period, you will automatically have access to the new edition. The old edition will still be available, but only the latest edition will appear in the search results.
Can I look at the book before I buy it?
You can view the table of contents and a free chapter of every book before you buy.
Does Practical Law update the books?
We will make new editions of books in our catalogue available on our site as soon as possible after they are published. We do not maintain the content ourselves but if a new edition of a book you subscribe to comes out within your annual subscription period, you will automatically have access to the new edition. The old edition will still be available on our website, but only the latest edition will appear in the search results.
My organisation subscribes to Practical Law, but not everyone has a username and password. What should I do?
We would be happy to provide additional user names and passwords. Please contact your account manager or fill in the form opposite and we will be in touch.
What if I don’t have a Practical Law subscription?
If your organisation doesn’t subscribe to Practical Law, or you don’t have an individual subscription, you can still subscribe to books online. Please fill in the form opposite and we will get back to you.
How do I upgrade my package?
You can upgrade your package at any point during your annual subscription. Please contact us using the details opposite.
Do you sell hard copies?
A subscription to books online includes only the online version of the selected books. You can order hard copies of all books in our catalogue from Bloomsbury Professional.
Will you publish more books? If so, which books will you publish?
We plan to publish more books from Bloomsbury Professional in the future. Our online catalogue lists all books currently available and notes which books will be available in the next few months.
If you have an enquiry about a particular book, please contact us using the details opposite.
