Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT)

A type of split-interest trust that distributes a specified amount of the assets at least annually to one or more noncharitable beneficiaries for a set period of time. At the end of the specified period, the trust distributes the "remainder" to a charitable beneficiary or beneficiaries. A charitable remainder trust is a tax-exempt entity under Section 664(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code.
