A Practice Note providing an overview of environmental impact review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and state environmental review laws including those known as "little NEPAs." This Note discusses the types of federal and state approvals that trigger environmental review for developers and real estate owners and operators. This Note also gives an overview of the process undertaken by state and federal agencies to prepare an environmental assessment and an environmental impact statement if one is required.
