A Practice Note explaining the protections provided for residential real estate that is or may qualify to be designated as a homestead in Texas. This Note also discusses homestead property tax exemptions, procedures for designating a homestead, exceptions to the homestead protections afforded by the Texas Constitution and statutory law, and the termination or abandonment of a homestead designation.
