Transmission owner (TO)
This term has different meanings depending on the context in which it is used.
In the context of electricity, the owner of transmission assets. In Great Britain:
The onshore transmission systems in England and Wales, and the north and south of Scotland are separately owned and maintained by three regional TOs. For more information, see Practice note, Electricity industry: overview.
The onshore and offshore transmission systems have a single system operator (SO) who is responsible for ensuring the stability and security of the entire GB transmission system.
