Energy imbalance

As used for electricity, the discrepancy, for any settlement period, between the amount of electricity a company has contracted to generate or consume (adjusted for any accepted bids and offers in the balancing mechanism) and the amount the company actually generates or consumes. The settlement of energy imbalances is managed by Elexon in accordance with the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC). For more information, see Practice note, Electricity industry: overview.
