Coordination Drawings

The overlay of shop drawings of individual specialty subcontractors with the approved construction documents to show the exact horizontal and vertical dimensions of spaces in a building. Also known as composite drawings.
Coordination drawings should:
  • Identify conflicts in the placement of mechanical, electrical, or plumbing (MEP) systems before starting construction.
  • Confirm that there is adequate space, usually in the ceiling and walls or in discrete mechanical spaces, for all intended equipment.
Coordination drawings can reduce, if not eliminate, changes arising from:
  • The need to redesign MEP systems in the field.
  • Having to open closed walls or ceilings to install, connect, or relocate mechanical and electrical systems.
