This Practice Note addresses English-only policies in the workplace. This Note discusses federal law prohibiting national origin discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Section 1981 of the Civil Rights Act of 1866. This Note does not address public employees and the additional protections they may be entitled to under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and the US Constitution.
