The China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) has announced that it has appointed Wang Chengjie as its new Secretary General and President of the Arbitration Court. The appointment took effect on 28 July 2016. Wang already has 18 years of experience working for the institution and most recently headed its sister mediation institution for eight years.
A record number of 28 cases were registered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ad hoc committee at the Rio Olympic Games 2016. In part the number was the highest because of the 16 Russian cases related to the eligibility of Russian athletes, following the International Olympic Committee’s Executive Board decision of 24 July 2016 in relation to doping by Russian athletes.
