Jackson Lewis: Illinois' Cook County Enacts Paid Sick Leave Ordinance | Practical Law
This Law Firm Publication by Jackson Lewis P.C. discusses the recently passed Cook County "Earned Sick Leave" Ordinance, which requires that employers in Cook County, Illinois, allow eligible employees to accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours for each 12-month period. Employees may use paid sick leave for their own illness, injuries, or medical care or for those of covered family members. Employers must post notice of employees' rights in a conspicuous place at each facility. Employers may not retaliate against covered employees for exercising any right under the Ordinance. The Ordinance becomes effective on July 1, 2017.
