On January 5, 2017, the Online Trust Alliance released its updated Internet of Things (IoT) Trust Framework for developers, purchasers, and retailers of IoT devices to use as a product development and risk assessment guide. The Framework provides a set of strategic principles designed to help companies provide secure IoT devices throughout their entire lifecycle.
The updated Framework now includes 37 principles, broken into four key categories:
Security issues relating to devices, apps, and cloud services.
User access and credentials.
Privacy, disclosures, and transparency.
Notifications and related best practices.
Each of the principles included in these categories provides users with actionable and prescriptive advice to help ensure IoT device and app security.
