This Law Firm Publication by Ford & Harrison LLP discusses Tomick v. United Parcel Service, Inc., in which the Connecticut Supreme Court held that punitive damages are not authorized by the Connecticut Fair Employment Practices Act (CFEPA). The court found that punitive damages must be expressly authorized by statute (several other human rights statutes authorize these damages), and vague language such as "including, but not limited to" concerning legal and equitable relief is insufficient to authorize punitive damages.
